After more than 40 years of marriage and myriad trips for business and pleasure, we've never stayed in a worse place than the Rolla Econo Lodge. We went to Missouri for the total eclipse in August, 2017, and got stuck booking the Econo Lodge for one night of our 4-night stay. We knew going in that all they had left was a smoking room, but we didn't expect it to reek so badly of smoke that we took our suitcases out to the left and kept only the bare minimum in the room. Between the tobacco smell, the lumpy, thin mattress and the over-fat cheap foam pillows, and stinky sheets, neither my husband or myself slept at all. Couldn't wait to check out the next morning as early as possible. Additionally, they took advantage of people coming for the eclipse and overcharged for the night. I'd rather sleep in my car than ever stay at an Econo Lodge.
This room was very comfortable, quiet, and most importantly, extremely clean. There was a refrigerator and microwave in our room at no extra cost. There was a flat screen tv with cable and the beds were quite comfortable. About the only thing I found was a negative is that the bathroom was somewhat small. The shower was very clean and very relaxing. The staff was very courteous and friendly. And included was breakfast in the morning which was quite good. This room was well worth the price and when I stay in the area again, I will stay here at Econo Lodge. Thank you for a very pleasant stay.
I would recommend staying elsewhere in Rolla. The Super 8 just down the road, for example, is cheaper, a better facility, cleaner, has a better breakfast, a more competent staff, and a pool that is open.
The smoke free / pet free room smelled strongly of both. I could tell the carpet was dirty but was very surprised to see the amount of dirt coming off my feet when I went into the shower. The toilet would not even flush a tissue, I tried it. Obviously, there were issues flushing other things. :(
You are greeted by a pool with a “Permanently Closed” sign on it as you drive in. The staff on check in were friendly but not professional in their job and it took far longer to check in than it should have; especially since we were the only customers there!
The air conditioner and key card is shut off sometime before 8:30 am. The wife could not get back in while I was in the shower and the room was getting warm and humid as the bathroom fan did not seem to vent anywhere. I discovered that there was no power to the unit. I was told at the desk that the breaker had tripped. But it was not reset. I think it was to “encourage” early checkouts!
Clean and nice front desk person. I was happy to be there.
Checked in and a few hours later got a call my daughter was hurt at rotc camp so we had to leave. They wouldn't refund the money. Pretty crappy if you ask me. Rooms had bugs the guest that did stay got half their money back because of bugs. Just all over crappy.
